About Lupi Vino Cucina
Awarded with the Gold Medal for Best Dinner in La Jolla for the last five years by La Jolla News, Lupi Vino Cucina provides guests with an authentic Italian casual dining experience. Lupi has a prime location in the exclusive Bird Rock area of La Jolla, California and is only one hundred yards away from the Pacific Ocean. Executive Chef Luigi Tornatore opened Lupi Vino Cucina in 2003 to offer an Italian casual dining experience with a focus on roman style cuisine. The authentic Roman cuisine uses only fresh, local ingredients that are made on location every day.
Lupi stays true to its name as it continues to satisfy every guest that it receives. Deriving from an ancient folklore about a wolf who takes in and provides two young boys as her own, Lupi adapts this iconic Roman symbol to show true Italian hospitality through their welcoming staff and expanding, mouthwatering menu. As recipients of the reader’s choice awards for best dinner and best pet friendly restaurant four years running, Lupi Vino Cucina is one that is guaranteed to provide for a delightful experience.
With a passion for feeding others and making them happy, Chef Luigi has always had the culinary dream of owning his own restaurant. As all good stories go, Chef Luigi's dream came true. He is now the proud co-owner and chef of Lupi, named after the Roman myth of the "Lupa". Chef Luigi's passion for cooking started during his early age by spending time with his grandmother while she was cooking. Still today, Chef Luigi brings to Lupi the old Italian traditions learned in Italy when he was a child. His culinary work experience includes working for a resort hotel as the executive Chef in Las Vegas before moving to San Diego to work as private chef in 1989. Thanks to his amazing culinary skills, Luigi has cooked for many impressive clients, including William Perry and Gerald Ford. In 1992, Luigi became the Chef Partner of Primavera Restaurant in Coronado. His dream of owning his own restaurant finally came true in 2007, when he opened the doors of Lupi Vino cucina in Birdrock, La Jolla, offering locals a true roman style culinary experience.
